T-     London is the capital of England. It is the main city of this country. London is the biggest cultural centre of Great Britain. You will agree with me that London is unforgettable and very beautiful city with numerous sightseeing. There are a lot of sightseeings there.

Can you tell us anything about them? Listen to very attentively. After that we`ll have a quiz. Who                 wants to be the first one?

P1 – I`d like to tell you about St.Paul`s Cathedral.

Everybody coming to London for the first time wants to see St. Paul`s Cathedral. This is the third cathedral with this name which London has had. The two others burnt down, the first in 1086 and the second in 1666.

Christopher Wren was an architect who had already built many buildings.  Now, in 1675, he started on his greatest work. For 35 years the building of St. Paul`s Cathedral went on, and Wren was an old man before it finished. From far away you can see the huge dome with a golden ball and cross on the top. The inside of the cathedral is very beautiful .After looking around; you can climb 263 steps to the Whispering Gallery, above the library, which runs round the dome. It is called this because if someone whispers close to the wall on one side, a person with an ear close to the wall on other side can hear what is said. Then, if you climb another 118 steps, you will be able to stand outside the dome and look over London.

But not only can you climb up, you also go down underneath the cathedral, into the crypt.  Here are buried many great men, including Christopher Wren himself, Nelson and others.

P2 – I suggest you the story about Westminster Abbey.

In Westminster Abbey there is a large stone, which has an interesting store. Many hundreds of years ago it was the seat on which the kings of Scotland sat when they were crowned. When Scotland became a part of Britain, the English king brought this stone to London. A large chair was made and the Stone of Destiny was put into the seat of the chair.

. Since that time the English kings sit on that chair when they are crowned .There are so many monuments and statues there. Many English kings and Queens are buried there.

P3 – I`ll tell you about Poet`s Corner.

Westminster Abbey is famous for the Poet`s Corner too. Many great writers are buried there: Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling.

P4 – I`ll tell you about the Houses of Parliament.

The Palace of Westminster, together with Victoria Tower and the Clock Tower form an unmistakable architectural complex. But, if Parliament is sitting, the flag flies on top of Victoria Tower during the whole day. The Houses of Parliament can be visited by the   public. It has the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

.

P5—M y story is about Big Ben.

Why is this bell called ‘’Big Ben?’’ When the great bell was cast in 1858, the question of its name was discussed in Parliament. One member said: ’’Why not called it Big Ben?’’There was much laughter among the members, because the man in charge was Sir Benjamin Hall, a very tall, stout man whose nickname was ‘’Big Ben’’. So they called the bell Big Ben too.

P6--  I  suggest you the story about The Tower of London.

The Tower of London was a fortress, a palace, a prison and the King’s Zoo. Now it’s a museum. William the Conqueror built it in the 11th century. There are always black ravens in the Tower of London. According to legend, if the Ravens leave the Tower, the monarchy will fall. That’s why Charles II ordered that a small population of ravens should remain there. All the ravens have names. So for over 900 years these birds have been gardening the Tower of London.

2)Контроль понимания речи на слух на основе прослушанных монологических высказываний  в форме ‘’quiz’’
