What makes a school good?

  1. One of the way deciding if a school is good is by looking at how many students go on to university (Finland is the country which sends the highest numbers of its students to university).
  2. The schools in Finland are usually very informal places with teachers and students sharing ideas (a unique way of dealing with students). This could be the reason why they are so successful.
  3. Lucky students in Finland have short school days and ten weeks of summer holidays.
  4. Lunches free.
  5. Lots of lessons in sport, music and art.
  6. Finnish schools seem to have a different philosophy, they believe in a quality and making school seem like a home away from home, so students feel comfortable and enjoy going there.
  7. The aim of the schools is not only to focus on ‘good’ students but also to provide extra help to students that need it.
  8. Another reason the schools may be so successful is the teachers, they are well respected and the field of education is considered to be a science. This explains why it’s actually rather difficult to get a job as a teacher; it is a popular job.
  9. The teachers don’t think that students would benefit from a school that is too easy-going.

………….

This example can serve as a model for other countries. This “formula” works successfully in that country but each country should work hard to put together an education system that meets of its people.
