And now let's start excursion.

Guide: (Teacher)Good afternoon, dear children. Welcome to the Bpitish capital! Welcome to our round London sightseeing tour. I'm glad to show you the most famous sights of London. But just a few words about London. It lies on the river Thames. The population of the city is about 8 million people. It is an ancient city, for it is more than 2000 years old. London is one of the oldest and most interesting cities in Europe. Traditionally it's divided into several parts: the City, Westminster, the West End and the East End They are very different from each other and seem to belong to different towns and epochs.

The Heart of London is the City, It's financial and business centre. Numerous banks, offices and firms are situated there, including Bank of England. Westminster is the historic, the governmental part of London. The West End is the richest and more beautiful part of London. It's the symbol of wealth and luxury. The best hotels, shops, restaurants, clubs and theatres are situated there.

The East End was once the poorest district of London - with lots of factories and docks, narrow streets and unimpressive buildings. Today the district is changing very fast. There are huge offices and new blocks of flats in the East End. And now we've come to Big Ben.

Guide: (Pupil 1)The Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament is famous for its big hour bell, known as "Big Ben". Big Ben is the name of the bell only -not the clock, and not the tower. The bell is 7 foot 6 inches high, and 9 foot 6 inches across the mouth. It weight 13.5 tons. The clock came into service in 1859 and was nicknamed "Big Ben". Its name devices from Sir Benjamin Hall who was the first Commissioner of works when it was hung and whose name was inscribed on the first bell

(Pupil 2)/pitain is administrated from the Palace of Westminster in London. This is also known as the Houses of Parliament. Parliament is made up of two chambers - the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The members of the House of Lords are not elected: they qualify to sit in the House because they are bishops of the Church of England; aristocrats inherited their seats from their fathers, people with titles. The House of Commons, has 651 seats which are occupied by Members of Parliament who are elected by the /pitish public.

(Pupil 3)10 Downing Street is a house of the Prime Minister. It is closet to people. The Prime Minister must answer questions every Tuesday and Thursday in the Commons - this is called Prime Minister's Question Time, (просмотрвидеоролика)

(Pupil 4)Westminster Abbey has more historic associations than any other building in /pitain. Nearly all English kings and queens have been crowned here. Many outstanding statesmen, scientists, writers, poets and painters are buried here: Newton, Darwin, Chaucer, Dickens, and Kipling. There is the Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey where there are a lot of monuments to the memory of the great people such as William Shakespeare and Robert Burns.

(Pupil 5)BuckinghamPalace is the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen and her family. It isn't open to the public. The first monarch who took residence there was Queen Victoria. When her Majesty is in residence the Royal Standard flies over the east front of Buckingham Palace. It has 600 rooms, a swimming pool, a cinema, a ballroom, and a garden. In summer the Queen gives three garden parties for about 9,000 guests. The ceremony of the Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace is a great tourist attraction. It takes place in the forecourt at 11:30 a.m. and lasts half an hour.

(Pupil 6) Trafalgar Squarehas become famous as a rallying point for all kinds of demonstrations, marches and political meetings. In the middle of the square there is a very famous statue "Nelson's Column" which is over 170 feet high. The Statue on the top is in the memory of Lord Horatio Nelson who won the most famous sea battle at Trafalgar.

(Pupil 7) The National Galleryis the home of the most important collection of historical paintings in the UK, which covers all the major European schools since the 13th century. The National Gallery started with a small collection of 38 paintings. They were bought by the /pitish government. Initially the collection was exhibited in the merchant's house at Pall Mall. In 1838 it was reopened to the public in its present building. Masterpieces of such great painters as Hogarth, Constable, Gainsborough, and Reynolds are exhibited there.

(Pupil 10) The Tower of Londonis a very old building, - nine hundred years old! In the early days of England the English kings lived in the Tower. It was a fortress, then it was a prison where many people died. Black ravens had much food near the walls of the Tower in those days. Now the Tower of London is a museum housing the National Collection of Armour and Royal Regalias, and many tourists from other countries come to see it. They see the dark stone halls with small windows and thick doors. The Tower is still guarded by the Yeomen Warders, the famous Beefeaters, who wear a traditional sixteen-century uniform.

I like it very much.
We don’t say to you: “Прощай!”
But we tell you: “Good bye!”
